A Wizard’s Murder
[Intended to be a roleplay intensive campaign]
He was one of the five most powerful wizards in the world. A man of incredible influence, intrigue, a man of knowledge and secrets.
Deeply paranoid, he built his tower a full day’s ride outside the city, on a steep mountain peak with only one entrance and exit. Ten stories tall, it dominated the landscape, and at its peak, a small room -his study. He hired guards to stand at the entrance to the tower, and one at the base of each of the stairs leading up. He had cast permanent Guards and Wards on the tower, as well as Magical Alarms at every window and multiple places inside. He littered the place and its surroundings with traps. But his pièce de résistance was a near permanent Antimagic Field he had placed in his study. The field encompassed the entire room, almost touching the walls and ceiling -making it impossible to summon, teleport, portal, or otherwise magic inside the room itself. The single window had Alarm etched into it from the outside -just in case. This was his most secure place in one of the most secure buildings in the nation.
It was there where he was brutally murdered. He was found, slumped over his desk with a hole the size of a grapefruit through his chest. No signs of forced entry or exit anywhere. No sign of struggle. No triggered alarms, and the guards noticed nothing. Who did it and why, but most importantly… how? That’s what you, the best detectives and officers the Crystal City has to offer, have been hired to find out.
